Susie Turton (Young)
Miss Rodeo Canada 1995
Susanne Turton was crowned Miss Rodeo Canada 1995 at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton, Alberta on November 12, 1994. Susannne is a 22 year old horsewoman from Kelowna, BC, and she came to Edmonton representing the Black Mountain Professional Rodeo. Susanne was crowned the black Mountain Rodeo Queen in May of 1994, and from there started a long and busy summer preparing for the Miss Rodeo Canada pageant.
Susanne is no newcomer to the horse world as she has been riding and working with horses for 15 years. It all began when, at the age of 11, her family moved from Kelowna to Quesnel, BC. She purchased a mare from Migay Stables in Quesnel and started to take riding lessons. Through the help and guidance of everyone at the stables, Susanne began successfully showing horses in many different disciplines, including hunters, western pleasure, dressage and stock seat.
Through her horse showing years Susanne joined the 4-H program and was an active member until the age of 16. It was through such a program that Susanne attributes her ability to shoulder responsibility and develop the poise and self confidence it took to win Miss Rodeo Canada.
Susanne became involved in the sport of rodeo at the age of 18 when she moved back to Kelowna. She was the Black Mountain Rodeo Princess before she won the crown in 1994, and feels that it was the extra year or so that helped her prepare and feel confident for her trip to Edmonton. She hopes that through her year as Miss Rodeo Canada she promoted the sport of Rodeo to others and helped them enjoy it as much as she has.
Since my reign as Miss Rodeo Canada in 1995, I have relocated from Kelowna, BC to a small town in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. I now call Sundre, Alberta my home. I am still actively involved in rodeo as well and spend my summers competing in the FCA, LRA and WRA.
When I am not following the rodeo trail, I can be found working for an internet marketing company based out of Olds, Reveal.ca. i am employed in the accounting department, however, have the opportunity on a daily basis to get involved in or absorbed in their fund-raising program. This program affords me the privilege of meeting with numerous non-profit associations and connecting with them with local businesses to try and raise funds for their cause.
